Low Carb Cheddar Bay Biscuit Chaffle Recipe
A chaffle is primarily made up of cheese and an egg. Chaffles are made in a waffle maker. They are keto approved version of a waffle. They are called chaffles because of all the cheese in the batter that provides the chewy inside and crispy exterior.Cheddar Bay Chaffles are a savory kind of chaffle that tastes similar to those cheddar biscuits at that popular lobster restaurant. This chaffle recipe is filled with sharp cheddar cheese and garlic. Cheddar Bay Chaffles are best enjoyed as a side dish or bread along with your dinner, ie fried chicken, grilled steak or lobster.I like to top my cheddar bay chaffles with sour cream and green onion. These would also be fantastic with a low carb chili too.
Chaffle Waffle Maker
To make chaffles, you will need an electric waffle maker. A popular waffle maker is the mini waffle iron by Dash. This works well for making chaffles because it is small and makes the perfect sized waffles.Larger models of waffle makers will for making chaffles as well. Pour the chaffle batter in the center of the waffle iron. There is no need to spread out the waffle batter. The batter will spread on it’s own creating a perfect chaffle.
Do I Need to Grease my Waffle Maker?
It is not necessary to spray oil or butter on the waffle maker before cooking chaffles. The fat from the cheddar cheese will release as the chaffle begins to cook. This will keep the cheddar bay chaffle from sticking to the waffle iron.
How to Store Chaffles
I like to meal prep my chaffles. I make a batch up ahead of time and store them in the refrigerator or freeze. When I want a chaffle, I reheat it in the toaster or oven.To freeze chocolate chaffles, flash freeze each chaffle on a plate or pan in the freezer for 30 minutes. Store the chocolate chaffles in a freezer safe bag.
