Q:Is the rail made from a single piece of wood or is it made from joined pieces? I ask because a wood rail used previously was made from joined pieces and it eventually broke at two of the joints.

Answer This Question
A: Joined pieces. Nobody makes a solid single piece rail. They will warp over time if not made with layers. The layers have the grain going against each other which helps prevent warping.

Q:Will this cross section (type 6040) match with a quarter-turn railing part that has the same type number (type 6040)? The dimensions given in the pictures for this part show 1 5/8", but for the quarter-turn part it shows 1 3/4".

Why? ends cut so sloppy!
This wood is very hard and was shipped and wrapped very well to protect it. But how disappointing to install having to take time and extra steps to sand down the ends evenly because they were cut so sloppy.
